LANDOVER, Md. - Two demonstrations of social activism by some St. Louis Rams players havent affected the teams performance on the field. To the contrary, the Rams havent put up back-to-back games like this in nearly seven decades. The Rams blanked the Washington Redskins 24-0 Sunday, giving the franchise its first winning streak of the season and its first consecutive shutouts since the Cleveland Rams beat the Chicago Cardinals 21-0 and the Chicago Bears 17-0 during the 1945 season.1945? Were about to shut out three! defensive tackle Michael Brockers said. Whens the last time we shut out three? That would be never. Brockers will get a chance to back up the guarantee at home against the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday.Such blustering aside, several Rams players offered another sobering reminder of life and death beyond the confines of football. Guard Davin Joseph wrote the words I Cant Breathe on the cleats he wore during pregame warmups. Receiver Kenny Britt wrote on his cleats several names of black men or teens, including Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin, whose deaths led to protests. And, of course, this was the same team whose receivers performed a Hands Up, Dont Shoot! show of solidarity before a home game a week earlier. The slogans reference Eric Garner and Brown, who were killed in confrontations with police in cases which, amid much dispute, did not lead to indictment by grand juries.Every life in this world is worth something, Joseph said. And when you lose one, it hurts, no matter who it is. We have to stand for the value of life.Heres more from a game that pushed the Rams to 6-7 and dropped the Redskins to 3-10:GOOSE EGG REDUX: The Rams throttled the Oakland Raiders 52-0 the previous week, so the shutouts have come against a pair of bottom-feeders. Still, its not easy to keep a team scoreless in the modern NFL; no team had posted back-to-back shutouts since the Dallas Cowboys late in the 2009 season. The Rams limited the Redskins to 206 total yards and had seven sacks. The defence has 29 sacks over six games. Were built to rush, weve known that, coach Jeff Fisher said, so its nice to get back on track a little bit.RUBBING IT IN: The six players sent out by Fisher for the coin toss were part of the teams three-year haul stemming from the deal that allowed the Redskins to select Robert Griffin III in the 2012 draft. Right now, that looks like a one-sided trade — because Griffin has been benched twice in two years and his future in Washington is in doubt.I will always be remembered as (being a part of) that blockbuster trade, Brockers said. And, you know, the Rams won. The Rams won that one.RG3 PLAYS: Griffin did make it into the game because Redskins starter Colt McCoy suffered a sprained neck when sacked for the sixth time with 2 minutes to play. McCoy was sent to the hospital for X-rays, and first-year coach Jay Gruden, whose future might be as tenuous as Griffins, said hell review both McCoys health and performance before deciding who starts next week.Colt hurt his neck, Gruden said, so we are back to the drawing board.KICKING MISADVENTURES: St. Louis Greg Zuerlein missed an extra point, a 28-yard chip shot and a 38-yard field goal attempt — all wide right — before sneaking one just inside the upright from 34.After the game in the locker room, Fisher brought some levity to his kickers struggles by having holder Johnny Hekker put the ball down and Zuerlein kick it into a locker while the rest of the team watched.Anytime you have a day like this, its never easy to show your face around everyone, Zuerlein said. But coach Fisher is awesome.GEOLOGY CHECK: The Redskins have lost five straight, have their fifth double-digit loss season in six years, and are heading into another December of turmoil that will focus on the futures of coaches, quarterbacks and the front office.Ive said rock-bottom once before, Washington linebacker Ryan Kerrigan said. It downplays what rock-bottom is if you keep saying (it) every time you lose.___AP NFL websites: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL___Follow Joseph White on Twitter: http://twitter.com/JGWhiteAPIan Bunting Jersey . Rasmussen didnt have a decision during his four appearances in May, when he gave up two hits and no runs in two innings. Toronto used five relievers while pulling off the second-biggest comeback in franchise history on Friday night, rallying from an 8-0 deficit to a 14-9 win. Pat ODonnell Jersey . His actions are much louder on the Fenway Park mound. De La Rosa had another strong home start, going seven solid innings to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday night. DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Brandon Morrow allowed five runs and six hits over three innings in the Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 loss Wednesday to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Morrow was making his second appearance since a season-ending forearm injury last May. On Feb. 28, the right-hander gave up two hits and one run in two relief innings. "The important thing, I felt good again," Morrow said. "Forearm is feeling really good. I felt loose again. I felt good with my breaking stuff. Fastball command kind of put me in a hole a couple times." Morrow struck out two, walked one, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch. "Hes big," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "In a lot of ways hes probably the most important guy, because we expected a lot out of him last year. Hes got as good an arm as anybody. When hes on, when hes healthy, hes been a good big league pitcher. If he can fill that void, bounce back and have a full season out there where he doesnt go on the DL and you get his 30-plus starts, that will be big for us." Travis Snider had a first-inning RBI single and a two-run homer in the third off Morrow. Snider spent time on the disabled list last season with a left big toe injury. "Travis worked extremely hard this winter," Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said. "Hes moving so much better. Now thats he healthy and physically ready to go, well see where he can take us." Edwin Encarnacion had a two-run double for the Blue Jays. STARTING TIME Blue Jays: Mark Buehrle will go against Pitttsburghs Gerrit Cole when the two teams play again Thursday in Bradenton.dddddddddddd Pirates: Jeff Locke was scratched from his start because of right side tightness. The Pirates believe the injury is a minor one. Locke gave up one hit in two scoreless innings last Thursday against the New York Yankees. The left-hander won eight straight starts in the first half of last season and made the NL All-Star team. But, he went 2-5 with a 6.12 ERA over his final 12 starts and was shut down in September. Jay Jackson, who filled in for Locke, gave up one hit in two scoreless innings. The 26-year old right-hander, signed to a minor league contract in December, pitched at Double-A and Triple-A for Miami last year. Pittsburgh starters have not allowed an earned run in five consecutive games, a span of 10 innings. TRAINERS ROOM Blue Jays: Closer Casey Janssen, out with a sore right shoulder, played catch for the second straight day. Outfielder Colby Rasmus sat out his fourth consecutive game due to a stiff neck. REASSIGNMENTS The Blue Jays sent right-hander Tomo Ohka, left-hander Juan Perez, and catchers Derrick Chung and Jack Murphy to their minor league camp this week. Ohka, who last pitched in the major leagues in 2009, agreed to a minor league contract with the Blue Jays in December. The 37-year-old was 51-68 for Boston (1999-01), Montreal (2001-04), Washington (2005), Milwaukee (2005-06), Toronto (2007) and Cleveland (2009). He has played in Japan for Yokohama (1995-98 and 2010-11) and Toyama (2013).
